The answer: computer linguists were at work here! Computer linguists deal with the development of machine systems that analyze and process human language. As an application-oriented computer linguist, you develop search engines that can be used to access data on the Internet or dialogue systems that allow other people to have a conversation with a machine. If you are more interested in theory, you can help to understand the formal and mathematical properties of human languages and investigate machine learning methods that can be used to automatically extract rule systems from large amounts of text.
