7/15/2026General information The postgraduate programme in Psychological Psychotherapy (WSPP) is carried out in accordance with the German Training and Examination Ordinance for Psychological Psychotherapists (PsychTh-AprV). In addition, the WSPP programme is accredited by the Verbund universitärer Ausbildungsgänge für Psychotherapie e.V. (<unith>), a German network of university training courses for psychotherapy, ensuring contemporary training of high quality. The basic duration of the training is 3 years in full-time, but individual scheduling is possible. Estimated costs and earnings The costs for the degree programme are 12,060.00 euros (335.00 euros/month over a period of 36 months, regardless of how long it actually takes to obtain the Approbation). In addition, there are one-off costs for the selection interview (70.00 euros), the semester contributions as well as supervision costs amounting to approx. 7,500.00 euros. This is offset by your earnings. The practical training is remunerated with 42.00 euros/treatment hour. This means that the total earnings here amount to approx. 25,200–31,000 euros. On top of this comes the remuneration for practical activities I and II by our cooperation clinics. There is also the possibility of applying for BAFöG. Examination and graduation You can take the state examination at the Landesprüfungsamt für Heilberufe (State Examination Office for Health Care Professions) in Hanover after the sixth semester at the earliest. According to the German Training and Examination Ordinance for Psychological Psychotherapists, the examination consists of a written part (120 minutes) and an oral part (30 minutes individual assessment and 90–120 minutes group assessment). After passing the state examination, you can apply for both your Approbation as a psychological psychotherapist and the certificate of competence in behavioural therapy.

General Requirement: Most of the courses offered at TU Braunschweig are taught in German. Therefore, when applying for a German-language degree programme, you must submit one of the following German language certificates by the application deadline: TestDaF with at least 4 points in each section of the test telc Deutsch C1 Hochschule DSH 2 Sprachdiplom of the Kultusministerkonferenz (Stufe II) C2-Zertifikat of the Goethe Institute Feststellungsprüfung of the Studienkolleg For non-restricted degree programmes, you only need to prove that you are attending at least a German course at level B2 at the time of application. For enrolment, you must submit one of the above-mentioned German language certificates. Unfortunately, enrolment is not possible without this language certificate!
