7/15/2026The “Braunschweiger Modell” The Media Studies two-subject Bachelor‘s programme is characterised by the interdisciplinary approach of the “Braunschweiger Modell”, which takes into account the constant broadening of the notion of “media”. The cooperation between Braunschweig University of Art and TU Braunschweig unites competences in cultural and communication studies, media technology and media practice. Study objective In the two-subject Bachelor’s programme in Media Studies you acquire core competences in media sciences, supplemented by a broad basic knowledge in all media-related areas. You can deepen your knowledge in an area of specialisation chosen during your studies in one of the subsequent Master’s programmes or in professional life. An internship is integrated into the study programme. Contents from three core areas characterise your studies: Media culture: The focus is on time-based media such as film and television, multimedia and their digital convergence. You will deal with the history, theory and analysis of media. Media technology: Of fundamental importance for electronic media is the field of technology. You will learn the basics from engineering and computer science. Communication sciences and media contexts: In addition to the basics of media research, especially the empirical methods of social sciences and theories and models of communication studies, you will acquire knowledge from media law, business administration, psychology, sociology or political science. Since the courses offered in this area are part of the compulsory elective modules, you can set individual focal points. In addition, there is an area of professionalisation, offering courses in media practice (introduction to video and digital editing practice, sound recording, image design, journalism and public relations, etc.) to complement the study programme in terms of professional practice.
