7/15/2026There are five elective modules that provide an insight into promising fields of activity The bachelor's programme in Bioelectronics Engineering combines the fascinating worlds of electrical engineering and life sciences and prepares you specifically for the interdisciplinary fields of the future. In six semesters, you will acquire in-depth knowledge in mathematics, physics, biology, chemistry and engineering. Many courses are practice-oriented and include accompanying laboratories and experiments. BEE modules A special feature of the programme are the BEE modules, which explicitly address topics at the interface between biology and electrical engineering. After an introductory BEE lecture on the basics, the BEE application lecture provides an early insight into the application areas of bioelectronics, in particular for information processing in biological and electrical engineering systems as well as for energy generation. Students also have the opportunity to build their own Thorlabs microscope to gain an experimental understanding of optical and physical principles. Another module, “Nano- and Bioelectronic Systems”, provides insight into the fabrication and characterisation of nanomaterials for sensors and electronics. Elective Area As the programme progresses, students can sharpen their individual profile through an elective area. There are two pillars to choose from: Life Sciences and Engineering. To ensure a broad education, students are required to take modules from both areas. Options range from molecular biotechnology, neurobiology and organic chemistry to optoelectronics, electromagnetic compatibility and molecular electronics. In addition, there are special bridging modules that specifically develop interdisciplinary skills. Interdisciplinary qualifications In addition to the subject-specific modules, the programme places a strong emphasis on interdisciplinary qualifications. An English language course is particularly recommended to prepare students for the international scientific and professional world. Students also have the opportunity to apply their knowledge in an industrial internship or an interdisciplinary team project. During the internship, you will work on real tasks in companies, while the team project involves working on research questions from university working groups. Both formats offer valuable insights into professional practice and promote teamwork and scientific presentation skills. Bachelor's thesis The programme concludes with a Bachelor's thesis in the sixth semester. This ensures that as a graduate you are not only professionally qualified, but also able to solve complex scientific problems independently - a valuable skill for starting a career or continuing on to a Master's programme.
