7/15/2025The German as a Foreign Language (M.A.) at TU Berlin focuses on linguistics and foreign language didactics, especially relating to technical and intercultural contexts. Students gain skills in technical language, linguistics, and didactics, along with knowledge in teaching German as a foreign language in different professional settings. The curriculum includes compulsory modules (60 ECTS), electives (18 ECTS), compulsory electives (12 ECTS), and a master’s thesis (30 ECTS). A teaching internship is mandatory. The entrance requirement is a first university degree in a relevant subject (linguistics, German studies, etc.) and sufficient proficiency in two foreign languages at B2 level (CEFR). The program lasts 4 semesters, is presence-based in Berlin, and will be discontinued after the winter semester 2024/25. No tuition fees are charged, but the semester contribution includes the public transport ticket. Graduates work in German language education, intercultural communication, publishing, software development, and international organizations.
