1/15/2026Buildings, streets, bridges, towers, and power plants need to be safe, durable, and sustainable. These structures constitute our environment and ideally even enrich it. Civil engineers therefore have a unique cultural obligation. They must consider the construction of such structures in a holistic sense. The interdisciplinary bachelors program in Civil Engineering teaches you basic scientific principles across the entire spectrum of civil engineering. During your studies, you will work on planning, completing, operating, and dismantling engineered structures. The program also covers general civil engineering methods, design and construction, geotechnics, water services, infrastructure, and general management. Like every other bachelors degree program at TU Berlin, applicants must possess a university entrance qualification certificate to apply to the Civil Engineering program. Generally, the Abitur serves as the university entrance qualification certificate. If you do not have a formal university entrance qualification, you may still be able to study at TU Berlin if you can provide proof of certain professional qualifications. The Civil Engineering bachelors program is taught in German. If you are applying with a foreign school-leaving certificate, you must provide proof of German skills at a specific level. This is a prerequisite for admission. The Civil Engineering program is divided into compulsory, compulsory elective, and elective components. The compulsory component encompasses a total of 153 credit points including the bachelor's thesis. You must also complete a total of 12 credit points in the compulsory elective component, choosing from a set list of modules. The elective component encompasses 15 credit points. The objectives and structure of the program as well as the examination requirements and details on how the examinations are carried out are set down in the study and examination regulations. There is a proposed course schedule for the degree program. This is a recommendation for how to complete the degree program within the standard period of study of six semesters. You can find it as an annex to the study and examination regulations. The most current version of the regulations applies to applicants. The bachelors degree program in Civil Engineering is modular in design. A module combines curriculum content relating to a specific topic. Modules often include a variety of different study and teaching formats such as lectures, practical tutorials, seminars, and practical projects. Students are required to earn a specific number of credit points and complete certain coursework and assessments in each module. A current overview of all modules is available in TU Berlins module transfer system (MTS). The MTS also provides an overview of which modules are mandatory for your degree program and which are elective. Detailed module descriptions provide information about the contents of modules, learning objectives, participation requirements, workload, types of assessment, etc. The module catalogue is based on the study and examination regulations. Before or during the program, you must complete an internship lasting 8 weeks. Proof of the internship must be shown at the latest when registering for the bachelor's thesis. Further information is available in the programs internship regulations. You can generally complete parts of the program abroad, either in the form of study abroad or internships. General information concerning stays abroad is available from the TU Berlin International Office (studying abroad) or the Career Service (internships abroad). Because many different disciplines are tightly interwoven in all processes related to construction, during your studies you will acquire knowledge in all areas of classic civil engineering. You will obtain an integrated perspective of the subject that includes extensive education in the basic principles of design and technical mathematics. This also involves advanced practical construction knowledge. As a graduate, you will be able to apply interdisciplinary methods and techniques in construction, simulation, and management. The bachelors degree program is intended to provide a basis for completing a masters program in Civil Engineering or a similar degree program. In addition, you can start working in many professional fields in Germany and abroad: in architectural offices, public administration, research, building associations, and in other institutions related to civil engineering.
