This Master of Arts program investigates German-language literature in European, media, and historical/cultural contexts. Students explore literature as an aesthetic phenomenon through a historical-philological approach that integrates current theoretical discourses and cultural diversity. Modules cover migration, multilingualism, transnationality, European-Jewish literary and cultural history, digital text cultures, and relationships between literature and knowledge formation. The curriculum fosters specialization in philological and cultural studies, continuing from the related RWTH Bachelor’s programs. Students reflect on digitization and the evolution of the book as a medium, using digital editions and contemporary publication formats, and examine the interplay between humanities and natural sciences in literature.
