10/20/2025How can we optimally use volatile sources of energy like the sun, wind, and water? Can we care for premature babies without disruptive cables? How can graphene optimize the production of tiny machines like processors? How can large sets of data be compressed and transported without loss? Electrical engineering develops devices and processes that make modern life safer and easier. The field of electrical engineering directs its interest to a broad spectrum of topics including energy supply, information transmission, robotics, medical technology, and automatization technology. In order to do this spectrum justice, RWTH has unified two disciplines into a single course of study: Electrical Engineering and Information Technology. The combination of these two fields opens up a variety of possibilities to students and offers them a high degree of both field-specific and cross-disciplinary flexibility. Students receive a technical foundation comprised of thorough and demanding basic training in mathematics, physics, computer science, and key electrical engineering topics. They can call upon these later when faced with specific tasks. After their concentrated, fundamental studies, students select one of four specializations offered:
